Our Thesis
We focus on two key areas; bringing immersive theatre to non-traditional environments in order to widen access & participation, and to develop new writing & untapped stories in new markets.
All of our productions feature creatives or cast members who are from or based in the North of England as part of our commitment to spotlight talent in this region.
We aim to keep 50% of our productions based in the North, with a specific focus on Yorkshire.
The Electric Press
Our Co-Founders met at the Carriageworks Young Theatre Makers in Leeds at just 12 years old. A fast friendship developed based on mutual creativity & a shared desire to tell stories. In 2023 - over a decade after we first met - we founded a production company to keep telling those stories.
To this day, the Carriageworks Theatre operates out of the Electric Press Building, from where our business derives its name.
The Electric Press itself is a symbol of innovation & the democratisation of culture; enabling faster and more efficient production of printed materials during the industrial revolution.
In naming our business this way, we honour not only the genesis of our friendship, but our cultural roots as well. Most importantly, we affirm our commitment that the tenets of innovation & access will forever remain central to all that we do.
-
Immersive theatre redefines traditional performance by moving beyond conventional venues and engaging audiences within dynamic, unconventional spaces.
By transforming locations, it breaks down physical and psychological barriers associated with traditional theatre settings.
This innovative approach not only captivates audiences through direct participation but also makes theatrical experiences more accessible and appealing to a broader demographic, thereby fostering greater inclusivity and expanding overall engagement.
-
Our thesis is not dogmatic. We don’t ever want to be limited by blanket rules; the sole limiting factor on what we work on is that it has to be a project that we’re genuinely excited & passionate about.
In addition to immersive theatre, we seek out opportunities that bring writing to new audiences or present an innovative challenge.
